Most photographers--those worth their equipment, anyway--are control freaks by nature. And as such, I taught myself HTML so I wouldn't be at the mercy of 1) outsourced web designers and 2) proprietary software.

I keep all the bells and whistles to a minimum, preferring to add things as "I need them." In other words--less flash but more substance.
